The Kawhi Leonard era has gotten off to a good start for the Toronto Raptors.

Not only is the team now 7-1 after their 129-112 win over the Philadelphia 76ers at home Tuesday, but Kawhi Leonard made franchise history by scoring 20 or more points for a sixth-straight game to begin a Raptors career.

Leonard finished with 31 points against the Sixers while shooting 10-of-19 from the field, 2-of-5 from beyond the arc and 9-of-10 from the free-throw line.

No one knew how Kawhi Leonard was going to look this season. The two-time Defensive Player of the Year only played in nine games last season due to a lingering quadriceps injury. It's still early, but Leonard looks like his old self, which is a top-five player in the league and the best two-way player in the NBA.

The Raptors are hoping this won't be a one-year rental situation. Kawhi Leonard can become an unrestricted free agent during the summer of 2019 if he declines his 2019-20 player option, something he is expected to do since more money is available to him on the open market.

There's been more than one report which has claimed Leonard already has one foot out the door with Toronto and is leaning toward going back home and signing with one of the teams in Los Angeles. The Raptors, however, are going to try their best and convince the star swingman to stay in Canada. They can offer him the most money next summer, plus a fifth year.

Things are off to a good start. The team and Leonard are playing well, Leonard bought — and not rented — a house in Toronto, and the organization hired Leonard's best friend, Jeremy Castleberry, as a player development coach.
