There are some members of the Toronto Raptors who have reportedly been skeptical of star swingman Kawhi Leonard sitting out games this season for rest, according to Josh Lewenberg of TSN.

Entering Monday, Leonard has played in 54 games and 14 of the 20 games he’s missed have been for rest.

Leonard only played in nine games last season with the San Antonio Spurs due to a lingering quadriceps injury. While everyone inside the Raptors' organization may not agree with Leonard's rest routine, they have all accepted it since they know they need a healthy and fresh Leonard to go on a deep playoff run this year.

Load management was born. After a mysterious quad injury cost him all but nine games with the Spurs last season, Leonard has only appeared in 54 of Toronto’s 74 games this season and 14 of the 20 he’s missed have been for rest.

It’s an unprecedented approach for a team to take with a star in his prime. Naturally, it’s also a polarizing one. Even some inside the organization have been skeptical, according to team sources. They may not agree with it entirely, but they’ve all accepted it, understanding why it’s such a crucial part of achieving their common goal.

With Leonard in the mix, the Raptors have a great chance of reaching the NBA Finals this year for the first time in franchise history.

Appeasing Leonard and his camp is important since the star small forward becomes an unrestricted free agent this summer.
