In the midst of a new-look roster heading into the 2017-18 season, the Toronto Raptors made one of their key acquisitions in C.J. Miles, who appears to be the leading candidate for the starting small forward job, according to Josh Lewenberg of The Sports Network.

Miles fits the mold the organization wanted when acquiring DeMarre Carroll, a three-and-D player that can serve as a support piece for the reluctant DeMar DeRozan, who has struggled from deep throughout his NBA career and taken the mid-range mastery as the power tool for his game.

The 12-year veteran shined during his first preseason game and start with the team, netting 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting and two steals in 18 minutes of playing time against the L.A. Clippers on Sunday.

The Dallas, Texas native has been a bench player through the majority of his career, but has a wealth of starts under his belt, logging 299 nods through 715 career games.

Miles had one of the most impressive seasons coming off the bench under Paul George as a member of the Indiana Pacers last season, scoring 10.7 points per game while shooting a blistering 41.3 percent from beyond the arc and 90.3 percent from the stripe.

According to Lewenberg, it looks like the starting small forward job is Miles' to lose, with Norm Powell being a viable option to back him up despite his 6-foot-4 frame.
