Toronto Raptors general manager Bobby Webster is optimistic about Greg Monroe's recent signing after reeling in the lefty big man on a one-year, $2.1 million deal for the veteran's minimum, according to Ryan Wolstat of the Toronto Sun.

“Greg’s a proven big man in this league,” said Webster. “We believe Greg’s experience will be a great addition to not only our frontcourt, but to our team culture as we continue to build towards our goal of an NBA championship.”

The 6-foot-11 big man out of Georgetown has played outside of his preferred power forward position after the league trended to a stretch-4 model with 3-point shooting big men.

Yet, Monroe is still a crafty scorer around the basket and an energetic rebounder, which should give this new-look Raptors team another big body to further re-enforce the depth chart.

It was Monroe who gave the Raptors headaches in the 2017 postseason, as then-coach Jason Kidd deployed him against Jonas Valanciunas, helping the Milwaukee Bucks gain a 2-1 series lead before the Raptors won three straight to take the first-round series.

Moose put up 10.3 points and 6.5 rebounds per game for the Boston Celtics last season, but holds career averages of 13.7 points and 8.6 rebounds. Monroe is expected to back up Valanciunas coming into 2018-19.
