The Toronto Raptors are reportedly also involved in the arms race to land the services of Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo. However, they must clear enough cap space to accommodate the contract of the two-time NBA MVP who currently has a supermax extension being laid out on the table for him.

In the event that he signs the lucrative deal prior to the season, the Raptors may have to clear some players with veteran Kyle Lowry being the best option considering the position that he's in at this stage of his career, via John Hollinger of The Athletic:

“Imagine, for instance, a deal with Brooklyn that swapped Lowry for Spencer Dinwiddie and Jarrett Allen (see below). Or Denver for Gary Harris, Will Barton and picks. Or similar-type deals with the Sixers or Heat. (The Lakers, Bucks and Clippers, sadly, probably can’t get in on this with the hard cap and Lowry’s $30 million number).”

The 34-year-old point guard may emerge as the odd one out of all the players in the roster especially with his $30 million contract that is set to expire next season. Not to mention that the Raptors are already in the middle of instating a youth movement within the team.

They have already built around a budding star in Pascal Siakam along with the newly-extended Fred VanVleet together with a promising player in OG Anunoby at the helm.

Realistically speaking, the Raptors are nowhere reaching the NBA Finals in the near future especially with their counterparts heavily engaging in a bevy of offseason moves to bolster their lineups. Lowry will have to explore his options if he still wants to have a clear shot at winning his second championship ring.

Many suitors are expected to line up once the Raptors make Lowry available to the market. He can still bring a steady veteran presence and stability on the offensive end for the teams that are willing to trade for him.

The upcoming season will see whether Masai Ujiri still wants another run with Kyle Lowry or if he will finally go all-in on his pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo.
