With the NBA trade deadline inching closer, the Toronto Raptors are surprisingly trying to get involved in some big-name acquisitions.

According to a report by Sports Illustrated’s Jake Fischer, the Raptors have called the Memphis Grizzlies and inquired about acquiring stars Mike Conley and Marc Gasol in a trade. Per Fischer, the Raptors have reportedly offered up guard Kyle Lowry and center Jonas Valanciunas as a potential trade package, though nothing else has been reported.

This is a bit of a curious move for the Raptors, as Lowry is not only younger than Conley, but has been a crucial piece of the Raptors' offense for some time. He’s also on a bit of a cheaper deal, but has had a history of injury problems and an inconsistency to play well in the postseason.

For the Grizzlies, the team is obviously looking to rebuild, with both Conley and Gasol likely looking to be dealt to a team that is ready to contend in the playoffs. After starting out the year with playoff hopes, the Grizzlies have plummeted in a stacked Western Conference, as their 21-33 record is good enough for second worst in the West.

Conley is currently averaging 20.3 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 6.3 assists this season, while Gasol is posting 15.7 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 4.7 assists.

After starting out the year with some lofty numbers and possible MVP aspirations, Lowry’s stats have dropped a bit, and the guard is currently averaging 14.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 9.2 assists for the Raptors, who are just two games behind the Milwaukee Bucks for first in the Eastern Conference.
