It took him seven tries, but Toronto Raptors head coach Nick Nurse finally won his first ever NBA coach’s challenge on Sunday.

In the third quarter of the defending champions’ road game versus the Los Angeles Lakers at Staples Center, Nurse finally got his way and got an initial call overturned in the Raptors’ favor.

Nurse didn’t hide his delight as he gave his players and assistant coaches hugs and even flashed the thumbs up sign. The Raptors bench boss even hugged a random Laker fan sitting courtside.

Nurse is the first coach to issue (and lose) his first coach’s challenge in NBA history in Toronto’s 130-122 season opening win versus the New Orleans Pelicans. He went on to lose his next five coach's challenge before finally getting his way in LA.

The Raptors are currently second in the East with a 6-2 record.
