Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Dan Martindale had some very high praise for Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes ahead of this week's matchup.

According to ESPN's Jamison Hensley, Martindale stated.

“I think Mahomes is [Joe] Montana — I’m talking about the San Francisco Montana and not the Kansas City Montana,” Martindale said. “I think how everything is cyclical and history repeats itself. I think you’re seeing that combination between Andy [Reid] and Mahomes of Montana and Bill Walsh. I really do.”

Martindale took over the defensive coordinator position this season after years of being the team's linebackers coach from 2012 to 2017. Martindale has helped maintain the stout defense this season that Baltimore has been known to have for years now.

Baltimore Ravens veteran safety Eric Weddle provided further insight into why he agrees with Martindale's praise of Mahomes.

“He’s wise beyond his years, the way he controls the line of scrimmage, the way he checks, the audibles, snap count, the way he moves the safeties with his looks and his dropbacks,” Ravens safety Eric Weddle said. “[I’m] obviously impressed with what I’ve seen, and it’s exciting for me to go out there and try to make him mess up with what I can do and maybe force him into some throws he wouldn’t want to do.”

Martindale and Weddle will surely have their hands full during this week's matchup as they will do whatever they can to stifle Mahomes and the Chiefs highly ranked offense. The Ravens are amongst the league best in terms of defense, so it will be a test for both teams to see who wins in this highly anticipated matchup.
