Baltimore Ravens running back J.K. Dobbins suffered a left knee injury in Saturday's preseason finale. The Ravens believed that he suffered a season-ending ACL tear, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, and ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that an MRI has confirmed this fear.

Dobbins got hurt on the opening drive of the Ravens' 37-3 victory over the Washington Football Team. He was carted to the locker room after getting helped off the field.

The second-year running back out of Ohio State was set to be the starter in Baltimore after a solid rookie season. Dobbins rushed 134 times for 805 yards and nine touchdowns in 2020 as part of the Ravens' dominant ground game. His 6.0 yards per carry is the second-highest average for a rookie running back over the past 20 years, with Alvin Kamara the only one better at 6.1. Dobbins also caught 18 passes for 120 yards in Year 1.

With Dobbins out, Gus Edwards is slated to move into the starting running back role. Edwards has been a consistent presence in Baltimore's backfield for the past three seasons, rushing for just over 700 yards and at least 5.0 yards per carry in each year. In 2020, he carried the ball 144 times for 723 yards and six touchdowns.

The Ravens also have Justice Hill and Ty'Son Williams as backup running backs, and Lamar Jackson is obviously a great runner in his own right. Still, losing the former second-round pick for the season in Year 2 is a tough blow.
