It was a tough Friday for running back Alex Collins who was arrested Friday morning after a car crash and then a few hours later released by the Baltimore Ravens.

According to the Baltimore Sun, Collins was arrested Friday morning at 6:48 AM after police responded to a report of a car crashing into a tree. Collins was released from jail early Saturday morning after being charged with possession of more than 10 grams of marijuana, intent to distribute marijuana, and possession of a handgun in a vehicle.

Collins attorney Andrew I. Alperstein said the gun was unloaded and asked for the public to let the legal system play out before jumping to conclusions.

“There are disputed facts in this case, and we look forward to working that out,” Alperstein said. “Alex is a nice young man and has been a wonderful contributor to our community in Baltimore and I hope folks will give him the benefit of the doubt as the facts flesh out.”

Collins was a fifth-round pick of the Seattle Seahawks in 2016, but was cut by the team after the 2017 preseason. The Ravens picked him up and he had a lot of success with the team. Collins showed some flashes in 2017, but his 2018 season was cut short after a foot injury. Collins was set to become a restricted free agent this offseason, but now with his release he will be an unrestricted free agent.

After the legal process plays out, Collins will probably be facing some sort of suspension from the league.
