The Baltimore Ravens made a splash in the 2018 NFL Draft when they traded up to select Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson with the 32nd overall pick. Baltimore has now addressed their looming concern about their future beyond quarterback Joe Flacco.

It is no secret that the Ravens plan on taking their time with Jackson's development as a future franchise quarterback. However, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the offensive coordinator still has some big short-term plans for Jackson as well:

Asked Marty Mornhinweg how he envisions getting Lamar Jackson involved immediately. Says coaches will all plan together, let Jackson develop. Emphasizes Joe Flacco is their QB. Later, says Jackson “is a quarterback. Done.”

It goes without saying that Jackson had endured perhaps the most tumultuous draft process of any prospect. Despite being one of the best quarterbacks in college football over the last couple of years, there were still reports about him having to undergo a potential position change.

There is no question that Jackson is the most electrifying playmaker in the draft. As a result, it seems that Baltimore is looking to take advantage of that while he continues to develop as a quarterback. This could see him occasionally line up in the backfield or out of the slot. Baltimore has long been starved of playmakers and Jackson can fill the need immediately.

However, it is still clear that Baltimore plans on making him Flacco's successor some day. Otherwise giving up a slew of picks just to move up and take a scat back would not seem like the brightest move.
