The Baltimore Ravens did not cut Robert Griffin III, which was initially thought as a move that would precede the announcement that he’s going to be the primary backup for Joe Flacco. However, that does not seem to be the case anymore, as the Ravens have Lamar Jackson placed behind Flacco on the team’s depth chart ahead of Sunday’s showdown with the Buffalo Bills, via Clifton Brown of Baltimore’s official website.

Between the two former Heisman Trophy winners, Griffin has the advantage in terms of experience, but Lamar Jackson has impressed in the offseason to warrant a consideration from head coach John Harbaugh to make him the main backup to Flacco.

Of course, there’s little difference between the No. 2 and No. 3 quarterbacks, especially if Flacco can keep his body from breaking down, but should anything happen to him, the Ravens have the luxury of a nice mix of youth, experience, and athleticism among their backup QBs to act as the team’s safety net under center.

It’s also possible that Baltimore will continue to change the designation of Griffin and Jackson on the depth chart as the season progresses.

In his last dress rehearsal before the regular season, Lamar Jackson looked as though he’s ensured the No. 2 role by passing for 109 yards on 9-of-15 completions to go with 25 rushing yards and a touchdown on just three carries during a 30-20 win over the Washington Redskins in the preseason finale.
