There is no question that Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker is widely considered as the best in the NFL. As a result, Baltimore is trying to maximize his value with a rule change.

The league has made headlines for some of its controversial changes to the game. According to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk, Baltimore is steadily trying to get the NFL to consider rewarding one point for putting the ball through the uprights on kickoffs:

The Ravens have been the team most in favor of the rule, for a simple reason: Ravens kicker Justin Tucker has a strong leg and would have a good chance of putting a kickoff through the uprights.

Needless to say, it would be interesting to see if Baltimore would be advocating as strongly for this rule if they did not have one of the strongest legs in the league. Tucker recently cemented this notion by posting a video of himself casually hitting a 70-yarder with ease. That said, one can only imagine what he could do with a running start n the kickoffs.

Regardless, that did not stop the Ravens from doing their homework to help make their case. Kickoffs have been at the forefront of the NFL's recent initiative to make the game safer. The league had hoped to reduce the number of collisions by moving touchbacks to the 25-yard line, however, teams were able to avoid that by simply kicking the ball high. Regardless of their “good-natured” approach to the rule, it is highly unlikely to go into effect in the near future.
