The Baltimore Ravens parted ways with linebacker Terrell Suggs this offseason. His departure marks the official end of one of the greatest eras in franchise history.

Suggs was the last remaining member of the Ravens trio of defensive stars along with linebacker Ray Lewis and safety Ed Reed. According to NFL Network's Andrew Siciliano, the 2019 NFL season will mark the first time the Ravens started a year without any of them since 1996:

Ravens have been in Baltimore since 1996. Week 1 this September will mark the first time they open a season without Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, or Terrell Suggs on their roster.

It is indeed the end of a dynasty for the Ravens. Suggs is now expected to sign with the Arizona Cardinals to likely finish out his career. As a result, Baltimore has now officially begun a new era. Suggs was the last remaining starter on defense from the Ravens' Super Bowl season in 2012. He established himself as the successor to Lewis and Reed as the sole captain of the defense moving forward.

Although Ravens fans are sad to see one of their most beloved players leave town, the move should hardly come as any surprise. Baltimore has ushered in a bit of a youth movement this offseason after parting ways with notable veterans such as quarterback Joe Flacco and safety Eric Weddle. The writing seemed to be on the wall for Suggs' looming departure.

Fortunately, he will have an opportunity to finish out his illustrious career in his native Arizona. Meanwhile, Baltimore can now get accustomed to life without their once formidable Big 3 on defense.
