Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes are both off to outstanding starts this season, and Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Don Martindale feels that could continue throughout the year and beyond.

Ahead of the Ravens' Week 3 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs, Martindale said that he thinks we could be witnessing the birth of the next great rivalry in the sport when it comes to Jackson and Mahomes:

“I think just as an NFL fan, as a fantasy owner, if you will, the NFL’s in good hands with these young quarterbacks,” said Martindale, according to Jonas Shaffer of The Baltimore Sun.  “And I think you’re going to see two great quarterbacks in this game. We might be seeing the next Brady-Manning matchup, Ali-Frazier, Magic-Bird. You don’t know, but the excitement of it … all these quarterbacks that are coming out, they can extend plays.”

Baltimore and Kansas City met once last year, with the Chiefs emerging with a 27-24 victory behind 377 yards and a couple of touchdowns from Mahomes.

Martindale says that loss still stings:

“It stuck with us, yeah,” he said. “I’m not going to hide from that. Sure, it has.”

Jackson looks much-improved this season, as he has thrown for 596 yards, seven touchdowns and no interceptions while completing 71.9 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 145.2 over the Ravens' first two games.
Meanwhile, Mahomes has picked right up where he left off from his MVP season, throwing for 443 yards, four touchdowns and no picks while registering a completion percentage of 68.2 percent and a passer rating of 131.2 over his first two contests.
