It's only been seven months since Jimmy Smith of the Baltimore Ravens tore his Achilles against the Detroit Lions and he is already back on the field according to Jamison Hensley of ESPN.

There was some speculation that Smith might have to start training camp on the PUP list, but he was able to participate in drills with the team. During the team's minicamp last month he was only able to go through individual drills, so this is a big step forward.

Ravens Safety Tony Jefferson is shocked that Smith has already made his way back to the field and he doesn't understand how he does it.

Last season Smith played in 12 games finishing with three interceptions and nine pass breakups. He will turn 30 next week and the Ravens hope that he will be able to play a complete season this year.

Since being drafted in the first round in 2011, he has only played in all 16 games twice, and it has been one knock on an otherwise nice career.

There is still no guarantee that Smith will be ready for the season, and even when he does come back, he probably won't be at 100 percent, at least not right away. The Ravens also have to hope that he hasn't lost a step through the recovery. The Ravens don't have a ton of depth in the secondary so if he misses time the Ravens are going to be hurting. He is one of the leaders on the back end of the defense, and they need him to be at his best.
