The departure of linebacker C.J. Mosley left a notable void in the Baltimore Ravens defense this offseason. It appears linebacker Kenny Young is hoping to do his part to help fill it.

The Ravens underwent some significant changes this offseason. Young is looking to do what he can to serve as a viable replacement for Mosley, via the team's official website:

“I was shocked,” Young said. “I thought he was going to be the Tom Brady of our defense, sign the next contract and stay with us and be the face of this defense. It’s a business, that’s one thing I learned from it. I’m trying to be the next man up.”

Young added that he is not ready to set any expectations for himself just yet.

“I’m not going to make expectations for myself so soon, but what I expect to do right from the get-go is compete hard and make plays,” Young said. “My expectation is to make plays. That’s it. Make plays.”

Although Young appears to be taking a humble approach to the matter, there is no question that he is one of the leading candidates to take Mosley's place at the center of the defense. He was initially taken in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. The former UCLA product quickly proved to be a solid pickup after he was able to make an immediate impact on defense. He finished the 2018 campaign with 51 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and one forced fumble.

Young will be competing with Chris Board and Anthony Levine for the open linebacker spot alongside Patrick Onwuasor. Regardless, he appears to be the frontrunner for the job considering how much more playing time he received last season. He and the other linebackers will undoubtedly have some big shoes to fill with Mosley gone.
