The Baltimore Ravens got hit with terrible news before the NFL season even began when running back J.K. Dobbins was ruled out for the season with an ACL injury. That leaves them thin at running back, and Gus “The Bus” Edwards is all set to take the lead role.

Or so it seemed for a brief while.

The Ravens are bringing in a pair of veteran running backs to see if they can add some talent to the position group. According to Field Yates of ESPN, the Ravens are working out Le'Veon Bell and Devonta Freeman.

Yes, that's the same Le'Veon Bell who was one of the best backs in the NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers before holding out for an entire season and eventually signing with the New York Jets. Ever since his Steelers days, he has not been the same back.

Then there's Freeman, who was a huge talent with the Atlanta Falcons and then fell out of favor with the team. He was recently cut by the New Orleans Saints.

Are either of these options the most attractive for the Ravens? No, but having Edwards and Ty'Son Williams as the current backs are not what they want as they begin the 2021 NFL season. Unfortunately, Justice Hill tore his Achilles recently.

So, the pair of veterans coming in now makes some sense.

Bell was last with the Kansas City Chiefs, so it remains to be seen what he really has left, if anything. Either way, the Ravens don't seem content with their running back situation, hence the pair of workouts with their regular-season opener a week away on Monday Night Football against the Las Vegas Raiders.
