The Baltimore Ravens thought they had a three-year agreement with free-agent defensive tackle Michael Brockers once the legal tampering period opened on March 16.

Instead, the deal fell apart when the Ravens offered concerns about Brockers' ankle, and he re-signed with the Los Angeles Rams the same day the contract slipped through the cracks.

Brockers did a physical in his hometown of Houston, Texas, but–during an appearance on Chris Long's “Green Light” podcast–he said Baltimore's fears over Brockers potentially needing ankle surgery dissuaded the Ravens from consummating the deal (via Cameron DaSilva of USA TODAY):

“I did my physical here in Houston. I go to the doctor, they take X-rays and I did an MRI,” he said. “The doctor sent it to Baltimore and Baltimore’s doctor gets to look at it and he says, ‘You know, I’m not a specialist, but I’m going to send it to a guy that I truly trust and he’s a third-party doctor. He’ll just tell me what’s up.’ I guess that doctor told him I might need something like a surgery and they were like, ‘Oh.’

“They get my MRI, they get all this stuff. Then we don’t hear from them after that. And I guess that’s the process where they were sending MRIs to Anderson or whoever and getting his word for it.”

Brockers injured his ankle in Week 17 of the 2019 season, but he emphasized to Long, he felt fully healthy.

The Rams are certainly glad to have Brockers back after they lost both Dante Fowler Jr. and Cory Littleton in free agency.

While Baltimore could have fortified their interior by signing Brockers, they did add depth to their line by signing former Denver Broncos defensive end Derek Wolfe on Monday.
