New Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Greg Roman thinks that the key to the Ravens' having a successful offense in 2019 will be balance.

The Ravens already have a very strong running game thanks largely in part to quarterback Lamar Jackson, but Roman wants the team to broaden its horizons:

“We’ve got to develop a strong passing attack,” Roman said on The Lounge podcast. “Lamar’s got to develop and everybody around him has got to get better in that area. Obviously, there will be more emphasis on that.”

While Jackson was a dynamic force in the ground game during his seven starts this past season, he struggled throwing the football, totaling just 1,201 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions while completing 58.2 percent of his passes and registering a passer rating of 84.5.

He then had a miserable showing against the Los Angeles Chargers in the Wild Card Round of the NFL playoffs, entering the fourth quarter with just 40 yards passing.

“Everybody wants you to have to fight left handed,” Roman said. “The best thing we can do is be able to fight with both hands. We want to be able to run it and pass it. There will definitely be more of a balance there. That’s how you win – that’s what makes it sustainable.”

The Ravens are fully committed to Jackson as their starting signal-caller moving forward, as the team traded long-time quarterback Joe Flacco to the Denver Broncos earlier in the week.

Baltimore won 10 games and captured the NFC North division title in 2018. It then proceeded to extend head coach John Harbaugh.
