In an exclusive interview with the Establish The Pass podcast on ClutchPoints, Baltimore Ravens Pro Bowler Patrick Ricard talked about playing alongside Lamar Jackson, his evolution from college defensive lineman to one of the best fullbacks in the NFL, making fullback assists a part of fantasy football, new details about his neighbor stealing his DoorDash Outback Steakhouse order, and more.

A couple years back, Barstool Sports' PFT Commenter led the creation of The Fullback Assist:

“A team scores a rushing TD from 5 yds in or closer and there is a lead blocker in play.”

In 2020, Pro Football Focus began tracking the new statistic, highlighting some of the unheralded work of some of the game's toughest players:

During our interview with Ricard, he heavily endorsed the idea of including fullback assists in fantasy football moving forward, as well as any major blocks leading to scores.

“Yes. Any blocking should be a stat, even for linemen,” said Ricard. “They get no glory, it's insane. Half the time a running back can get a 20-yard touchdown and not even be touched, and people are like, ‘Oh, the running back’s so great.' It's like, that blocking was amazing.

“So I think there should be some changes for sure,” said Ricard. “There can also be fans knowing players, recognizing players that people don’t know about. Also for contracts. I think it’s cool that Barstool has been doing it, it's pretty sweet. Just giving more recognition to positions that don't get it very often, I'm all for it.”
