Guaranteeing John Harbaugh’s return for at least the 2019 season is one thing for the Baltimore Ravens. Having him coach them beyond that is another. At least that’s what Peter King of NBC Sports thinks of the future of Harbaugh.

In his latest Football Morning In America column, King expressed his doubts whether Harbaugh will be interested in signing an extension with the Ravens.

There’s a real chance that Harbaugh, 56, will not sign an extension, but rather coach his final season and take his chance on the market in 2020—or sign back with the Ravens. It could be a lot like the Joe Flacco situation in 2012, when he wouldn’t sign long-term with Baltimore and gambled that he’d win big in the last year of his contract.

Harbaugh has been a fixture on the Ravens’ sidelines as the franchise’s head coach for over a decade now, but King makes it sound as though that partnership is in danger of ending. That said, nothing is set in stone yet and the important thing for both sides is that they are still working together with a shot at winning another Super Bowl this season.

This speculation may have something to do with possible numerous coaching opportunities opening up in 2020, one of which Harbaugh could be eyeing to get along with a potentially lucrative contract.

John Harbaugh can help boost his power on the negotiation table when it’s time to sit down for business discussions if he could lead the Ravens to a deep run in the playoffs. But first, he’ll have to make sure his team sneaks into the postseason. They can win the AFC North title this coming weekend if they could beat the Cleveland Browns at home.
