The Baltimore Ravens came away with an impressive haul in the 2020 NFL Draft, being able to select JK Dobbins with the No. 55 pick in the second round. Ahead of his rookie season, Dobbins explained why he chose to wear the No. 27 jersey with the Ravens.

“I always wore it in pee wee football. It was my dad's number,” Dobbins said, via the team's official website. “So the reason why I wear No. 27 is to honor my father.”

Lawrence Dobbins, J.K.'s father, played running back at the same high school (La Grange High in Texas) that he played at. Sadly, Lawerence never got an opportunity to watch J.K. due to passing away in prison when J.K. was only 15 years old.

Therefore, the Ohio State product chooses to wear No. 27 to honor his father and continue the legacy he's already created. While at Ohio State, Dobbins decided to wear No. 2, as he rushed for 4,459 yards and 38 touchdowns in his four seasons with the Buckeyes.

Of course, the last running back to wear No. 27 for the Ravens was Ray Rice from 2008-2013. In his six seasons in Baltimore, Rice contributed 6,180 rushing yards and 37 touchdowns. Aside from the off-the-field issues, Rice was a key contributor for Baltimore over the course of his six years with the organization.

As for Dobbins, unlike Rice, he'll likely share touches with Mark Ingram in his first season with the Ravens. At the same time, he hopes to carry on the legacy of his father by wearing the No. 27 jersey in the NFL.
