Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs seems happy with his current situation with Baltimore. The 15-year veteran, who is in the final year of his contract, recently expressed his desire to continue playing with the Ravens past this season.
Suggs is also a fan of new Ravens defensive coordinator Don “Wink” Martindale. Despite Martindale working under previous DC Dean Pees for the past six years as a linebackers coach, Suggs suggests that the new DC will do some things that will suit him and the other defensive players a bit better:
“These young, hungry bulls [can] kind of get back to the way we used to do things and taking the shackles off of us, so to say. … Sometimes a player can be shackled by the rules that come with the defense, but I think Wink is just going to allow us to go make plays,” Suggs said, per Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun.
Despite being 35 years of age, Suggs is not showing signs of slowing down and is still making plays at a consistent level for the Ravens. He’s coming off another double-digit sack season in 2017, where he played all 16 games.
Suggs is expected to continue being one of the top playmakers in what has been one of the best defenses in the league for some time now. If Martindale’s less restricting style does have the type of positive impact that Suggs suggests, then the already vaunted Ravens defense could get even better this upcoming season, which should put the rest of the AFC North on notice.
