The Baltimore Ravens are beginning to get thinner and thinner in their secondary. After placing Tony Jefferson on injured reserve last week, another safety is looking like he will be lost for the season, as the team announced that DeShon Elliott is expected to miss the rest of the season as well.

According to head coach John Harbaugh (via Pro Football Talk), Elliott is not expected to return for the year after getting injured during the team’s 23-17 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.

“Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said at a Monday press conference that DeShon Elliott is expected to miss the rest of the season after being injured in Sunday’s win over the Bengals.”

Elliott was drafted in the sixth-round (190th overall) in the 2018 NFL Draft, and spent his rookie season on injured reserve as well, before joining the team and playing meaningful snaps in 2019.

Through just a handful of weeks of the 2019 NFL season, Elliott has been a contributor to the Ravens, having appeared in every game this year. With Jefferson also on injured reserve, it was expected that Elliott could be a main piece for the Ravens defense going forward, but he’ll, unfortunately, have to wait until next season to attempt to make an impact.

In the meantime, the Ravens will stick with Earl Thomas, Chuck Clark, and Anthony Levine as their safeties, and hope to avoid additional injury issues in the meantime. The team has already lost Elliott, Jefferson, and cornerback Jimmy Smith, who was injured during Week 1 and has yet to return to the field.

While the Ravens hold an already decent lead in the AFC North standings, a wave of injuries is always a bad thing, especially for a team with championship aspirations such as Baltimore.
