On Thursday morning, reports surfaced that Karim Benzema was set to leave Real Madrid this summer after 14 seasons at the club. However, the Frenchman has clapped back at the rumors and essentially said he's yet to make his mind up on what the next move could be.

Via Fabrizio Romano:

“Speak to Madrid fans? Speak about what? Why speaking of the future if I’m in Madrid. Who’s speaking is internet. The reality is NOT internet”.

“Stay or leave Real Madrid? At the moment, I’m here… we have a game on Saturday”.

Benzema just received a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad worth around €100 million per season. Needless to say, that would be difficult to turn down. But, it appears Benzema has yet to decide if he'll stay in the Spanish capital or begin a new adventure elsewhere.

While injuries certainly played their part this term, the 35-year-old still enjoyed a solid campaign for Los Blancos, netting 18 times in 23 LaLiga appearances and also scoring four goals in the Champions League. If this is truly the end of his time at the Bernabeu, Karim Benzema will be remembered for eternity.

He was the sole reason they won the UCL last season after bagging 15 goals in 12 outings, winning his fifth Champions League title in the process. Benzema has lifted 25 total trophies during his tenure with Real. The ex-Les Bleus international did have a verbal agreement in place to keep him in Madrid until 2024, but negotiations broke down. His current contract expires on June 30th.

Perhaps he could still put pen to paper with the Spanish giants but despite his comments, it feels unlikely. Only time will tell.
