Real Madrid is about to sign one of the best center-backs in the world on a free transfer, with Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger set to join in the coming months.

Following the UK government's sanctions on the Blues due to Roman Abramovich's connection to Vladimir Putin, Rudiger was unable to sign a new deal with the Premier League giants, ultimately forcing him to find a new home for the 2022/2023 campaign. That new home will be Los Blancos.

Via Fabrizio Romano, the German will put pen to paper on a four-year contract:

This is a tremendous addition for Real Madrid, which brings in one of the most vibrant defenders around. Rudiger has been an absolute rock for Chelsea over the last number of years and is truly a fan favorite. His energy on both ends of the pitch is unmatched, even contributing four goals this term in 43 appearances across all competitions.

Rudiger's pedigree also speaks for itself. He won the Champions League in 2021 and is a regular on the German national team. As noted by Romano, Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti played a key factor in luring in the 29-year-old, who will be poised to chase more trophies on this new journey in Spain.

It's a shame Chelsea has to lose him but Los Blancos supporters should be thrilled about such a top-tier signing. There's little doubt he will immediately thrive at the Bernabeu.
