Gareth Bale is set to re-join Real Madrid after a loan spell at former club Tottenham last term. However, the Welsh international doesn’t plan to be there for long. According to the Mirror, Bale is set to retire from club football next summer when his current deal runs out but continue to play for Wales as they fight for a spot in World Cup 2022 in Qatar.

Gareth Bale is just 32-years-old and it would seem like he definitely has some years left in him. But, clearly, he doesn’t have the motivation to compete for Madrid anymore. His £600,000-a-week contract is one of the biggest in world football and he hasn’t exactly lived up to the billing.

While Bale does become a free agent in the summer of 2022, he doesn’t plan on trying to find another club to play for. Gareth Bale is strictly focused on playing for Wales. They haven’t made the World Cup since 1958 but have a realistic shot at qualifying this time around with three points through their first two games ahead of clashes with Estonia and Belarus in September.

The winger enjoyed a solid campaign at Spurs in 2020/21, bagging 11 goals and tallying two assists in league play. With new boss Carlo Ancelotti coming into the fold at Real after Zinedine Zidane’s departure, there’s definitely a growing belief that Gareth Bale could have more of a role in the squad next season. Whether he does or not, it will be his last season as Bale shifts his focus to Wales.
