The Boston Red Sox sealed their eighth consecutive victory in style on Wednesday, courtesy of Alex Verdugo.

The Red Sox left fielder made a game-winning sliding grab off a liner from Minnesota Twins third baseman Luis Arraez.

The two-out Web Gem not only finished the game, it potentially saved the game-tying run from scoring, at least. The Twins had centerfielder Jake Cave on second base, and if Verdugo doesn't come up with the catch in left-field, the ball could have rolled all the way to the wall, and who knows where Arraez would have ended up.

Instead, the 3-2 win moved Boston to 8-3 on the season, following a three-game losing streak to open the season. At the moment, the Red Sox have the best record in the American League and sit atop the AL East. The Red Sox already have a third of the number of wins they had last season when they finished in the basement of the division.

Verdugo's heroics came in the bottom of the 7th inning, as the Red Sox and Twins are playing a doubleheader on Wednesday. Minnesota is 5-6 on the season and 1-4 at Target Field. While Verdugo also contributed at the plate, going 2-for-4 on the afternoon.

Nathan Eovaldi (2-1) got the start and the win for Boston. He allowed two runs and five hits in five innings of work, striking out three Twins batters.

The second leg of the doubleheader will see lefty Eduardo Rodriguez take the mound for Boston while right-hander Jose Berrios will start for Minnesota.
