It's been a tough start to the season for the Boston Red Sox. They were aiming to be one of the top teams in the AL East but instead are at the bottom with the Baltimore Orioles. Superstar shortstop, Xander Bogaerts is due to hit free agency, making these recent struggles alarming for Boston fans.

According to New York Porch Sports, an exasperated Xander Bogaerts was asked if the Red Sox can recover from the rough start. Of course, he started it off with the New York Yankees being at the top of the division. It must be frustrating continually losing games, especially considering Boston has a rather solid lineup.

With that in mind, things could become more difficult before they improve. Bogaerts is potentially hitting the free-agent market, which will be stacked with shortstop talent, per The New York Post. If the Red Sox continues to struggle, there is a real chance Xander Bogaerts looks for a change of scenery. We'll see how the rest of the season plays out, as there is plenty of time for Boston to get back in the mix.

All signs point to him leaving Boston though. According to Jon Heyman, “the Red Sox offered only to add one year at $30 million,” which isn't a whole lot for a player like Xander Bogaerts. On top of that, Boston has, an obvious replacement in Trevor Story.” The stars are aligning for Bogaerts' departure, as the organization might be planning to move in a different direction.

Keep an eye on the Red Sox, as they hope to get back into contention as the season plays out. If Boston can string together a winning streak, it could be enough momentum to climb the AL East rankings.
