The Cincinnati Reds are continuing to shake up the roster, having struck another deal on Wednesday. After dealing Sonny Gray to the Minnesota Twins, and offloading Eugenio Suarez and Jesse Winker to the Mariners, Cincinnati made yet another splash in the trade market. The Reds are reportedly trading relief pitcher Amir Garrett to the Kansas City Royals in exchange for left-handed starting pitcher Mike Minor, according to C. Trent Rosecrans.

In addition to Minor, the Reds will also receive an undisclosed amount of cash from the Royals as part of the trade. The 34-year-old heads to Cincinnati with just one year remaining on his current contract, under which he's set to earn $9 million. Considering the Reds are set for a rebuild, Minor could be dangled as a potential trade piece ahead of the MLB trade deadline.

Minor has spent 10 seasons in MLB, starting a total of 209 games and recording a career 4.11 ERA with a 79-78 record. Last season, he pitched 158.2 innings, logging a 5.05 ERA and 149 strikeouts. His best year was his lone All-Star season, which came in 2019, during which Minor maintained a 3.59 ERA across 32 starts for the Texas Rangers.

Garrett is perhaps best known for his wild brawl against the Pittsburgh Pirates a few years back, during which he single-handedly charged at the Pirates' dugout after tensions flared between the rival sides. The former St. John's basketball player turned MLB relief pitcher is coming off a dreadful 2021 season. Garrett was lit up to the tune of a 6.04 ERA and 1.573 WHIP, surrendering 32 earned runs in just 47.2 innings of work.
