Jay Gruden is no longer head coaching the Washington Redskins. Bill Callahan is taking his place, and he ‘s ready to turn back the clock; by getting Adrian Peterson back into the groove of things.

Peterson, who was a healthy scratch Week 1 and has received 40 carries for 108 yards in 2019, appears destined for an increased role under Callahan. Starting on Sunday, against the Miami Dolphins, the 34-year-old back should be receiving a higher workload.

Callahan is adamant about getting Peterson back into the rhythm of rushing the ball on increased snaps.

“So this year, yeah we haven't had as many attempts but there were times where he [Peterson] has flashed pretty well,” Callahan said on Thursday, via CBS Sports. “Like I mentioned the other day, we just haven't gotten enough into a rhythm to allow him to get lathered up and to really see what he could potentially do through the duration of a game.”

Peterson is “hyped” about Washington's plan to recommit to the run, per Matthew Paras of The Washington Times. The veteran back also noted how good it feels to see the change in Washington's practices under Callahan; which are reportedly more intense than the Gruden regime.

In 2019, Peterson has yet to receive a game in which he rushes at least 13 times. The opposite was in 2018, as he rushed for 24 times on four instances. In 2018, Peterson started all 16 games for Washington and ran for 1,042 yards and seven touchdowns on 251 attempts. Callahan may be looking for more production in 2019.
