The Washington Redskins have made a major splash move late in the offseason with the addition of former Pro Bowl running back Adrian Peterson on a one-year deal.

It brings aboard much stability to the backfield with a proven asset that shown throughout his career that he can be a workhorse factor in the running game. In his introductory press conference on Tuesday, Peterson made it clear that he is ready to compete of the starting job with his new team, according to John Keim of ESPN.

Although Peterson has a lot of catching up to do in terms of his learning the playbook and offensive scheme, the competitor in him hasn't wavered one bit with his eyes on the prize. There is still clearly that mindset in place that he can be an elite running back in the league if given the opportunity to play a significant role on the field. The Redskins could potentially provide that scenario this upcoming season as the team has been battered with injuries with rookie Derrius Guice out for the season with a torn ACL and Byron Marshall possibly heading to the season-ending injured reserve due to an ankle injury.

Peterson is hoping that he can continue to showcase that he can be a highly productive running back at this stage of his career. He had put that on display after being acquired by the Arizona Cardinals midseason in a trade from the New Orleans Saints as he recorded 448 rushing yards on 129 carries in six games. This was headlined by a pair of performances with more than 130 rushing yards before a neck injury prematurely ended his season.

He will have some competition for the starting job that is primarily led by Samaje Perine and Chris Thompson while Rob Kelley should factor for that spot. If anything, it appears Peterson is ready to make an impact right away with his new team.
