The Washington Redskins put forth their latest stinker this past Sunday, losing to the San Francisco 49ers by a score of 9-0 to fall to 1-6 on the season. Their only victory came at the expense of the winless Miami Dolphins last week.

After the loss to the 49ers, Redskins running back Adrian Peterson took the blame, referencing a key fumble he lost in the third quarter while Washington was driving in 49ers territory.

“The fumble, for me personally, I feel like that’s what lost us the game,” Peterson said, according to Kareem Copeland of The Washington Post. “I always look at going on to the next play, next play, but that was a critical point in the game. We were in position to put points on the board. … We can’t have a turnover. Especially playing against this defense. It hurts even more because it wasn’t like the guy punched the ball out. It came from pain. That little moment of ‘ugh’ allowed the ball to come out, and for me that’s just not acceptable. I’ll be beating myself up about this one all night.”

Peterson carried the ball 20 times for 81 yards in the defeat, which came on the heels of Peterson's breakout 118-yard performance against the Dolphins in Week 6.

On the season overall, the veteran has totaled 307 yards and a touchdown while averaging just 3.7 yards per carry.

This is Peterson's second season in Washington. Last year, he had a Renaissance season, rushing for 1,042 yards and seven scores. The bounce-back year earned him a two-year deal from the Redskins during the offseason.

Through the first seven weeks of 2019, Peterson is looking every bit of 34 years old.
