The NFL training camps are in full swing and it has been a great chance for everyone to get a look at the young guys on the team. One of the most intriguing players for the Washington Redskins is second-round running back Derrius Guice who the team is hoping will turn into their bell cow.

There were some questions leading into the draft about his commitment to football and it made his draft stock fall into the second round. One guy who doesn't see any concerns with Guice is quarterback Alex Smith who has been impressed with the young running backs play so far in camp.

“I didn’t know anything about him when we drafted him,” Smith said, via the Washington Post. “You hear all this nonsense, I guess, that’s out there. The kid has a smile on his face 24/7. He loves playing ball, he loves being out there. Then to be honest, I don’t feel like there’s a real weakness in his game. Pass game, protection, certainly he can run the ball. I feel like he does a heck of a job in protections, I feel like in the pass game he’s a weapon as well. So, I’m excited for him.”

The Redskins have a bit of a crowded backfield at this point with Chris Thompson and Samaje Perine also competing for touches. It's still unclear at this point if Guice will find himself being the starter when the regular season begins.

But even if he isn't the starter, expect Guice to get a ton of run this year and at some point he should emerge as the lead back out of this group.
