Washington Football Team quarterback Alex Smith continues to defy the odds. The 14-year veteran could be taking another step forward in his recovery process soon. According to the NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Washington Football Team could activate Smith from the PUP list as soon as Sunday.

Given the circumstances of Alex Smith's leg injury, it's a miracle that he's walking again, let alone able to return to the NFL. For those that don't know, Smith suffered fractures to his tibia and fibula during the 2018 season.

As a result, he would be carted off the field and his first season with Washington would come to an abrupt halt. The veteran quarterback would undergo countless surgeries while dealing with an infection to one of his legs in the process. Nevertheless, he never wavered and continued to keep his sights on stepping foot on a football field again.

Back in July before training camp, Smith overcame one of the many hurdles toward his valiant return to the league. He was cleared to return to football activities, allowing him to join the team in training camp. Once the reports were out, Ron Rivera iterated that if Smith is healthy, he'll be part of Washington's quarterback equation.

Of course, Dwayne Haskins is expected to get the nod as the starter to begin the season. Haskins is entering his second year with the team after being selected with the No. 15 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Regardless of what happens at quarterback, Smith's strenuous journey to return to football is one of the most impressive feats in NFL history.
