Washington Football Team quarterback Alex Smith has almost completed his miraculous comeback, but there's still one more hurdle he has to jump.

According to a report, Smith still has to pass a physical conducted by team doctors. Moreover, the said test is expected to happen on the 27th.

Per Ben Standig of The Athletic:

On the Alex Smith report. He is not cleared to practice until he passes a physical conducted by the team doctors, per a twam spokesman. That exam is expected to happen on the 27th. So, Smith has apparently made amazing strides, but another big step looms.

While this is just the beginning and the road is still very long for Alex Smith, it is still a huge milestone.

To recall, Smith suffered a gruesome injury in Week 11 of last season on a sack by JJ Watt and Kareem Jackson of the Houston Texans. On the play Smith fractured his tibia and fibula. Smith sustained more complications following the surgery to put his leg back together, as he got an infection.

For what it's worth, during an “Outside the Lines” interview, the Washington QB mentioned he was “very much lucky to be alive”

Smith's road to potentially playing once again in the NFL will be a tough one, especially following such a terrible injury. Not only does he need to re-acclimate himself to playing entirely, but he also needs to worry about his surgically reconstructed leg.

Whether or not he will ever take another snap in the NFL is still unknown, but even if Smith is never able to actually play in an NFL game ever again, his clearance with Washington to even give it a try will be one of the few bright spots in an otherwise bleak 2020.
