Chase Young is expected to be an immediate contributor for the Washington Football Team in 2020. But he may be sidelined for a short period of time in training camp. As Young prepares for his debut season in the NFL, the rookie defensive end is dealing with a hip injury early on in camp.

After being seen watching practice from the sideline, Ron Rivera told reporters that Young is currently dealing with a hip flexor. Therefore, Washington is going to take a cautious approach before having him return to practice.

“You’ve got to be smart,” Rivera said, via the Washington Times. “You don’t want to overwork him or wear him down and the next thing you know he’s going to miss four or five days, so we’re just trying to be smart about that.”

With Washington's first draft selection in the Rivera era, the team took Young with the No. 2 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Coming out of Ohio State, Young was regarded as arguably the best prospect available in this year's draft.

In his final season at Ohio State, Young tallied 16.5 sacks, 21 tackles for loss, and seven forced fumbles. As a result of his prowess off of the edge, Young found himself being likened to the Bosa brothers.

Upon the addition of Chase Young, Washington owns a defensive line unit that is oozing with potential. Besides the rookie standout, Washington features a defensive front of Montez Sweat, Da'Ron Payne, and Jonathan Allen.

Seeing that Young was the second player off of the board in this year's draft, he'll be expected to dominate from the moment he steps foot on the field. While expectations are high, Washington is taking the necessary precautions to ensure Young doesn't miss much time due to his hip ailment.
