Washington Redskins defensive end Chase Young was the first defensive player off the board so it only makes sense he is the early betting favorite for the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. DraftKings released their odds with Young headlining the list at +200. Arizona Cardinals linebacker Isaiah Simmons sits second on the list at +500.

Baltimore Ravens linebacker Patrick Queen (+900), Chargers linebacker Kenneth Murray Jr. (+1,100), Detroit Lions cornerback Jeff Okudah (+1,600), Jacksonville Jaguars defensive linebacker K’Lavon Chaisson (+2,000), Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Willie Gay Jr. (+2,000), Carolina Panthers defensive tackle Derrick Brown (+2,500), San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw (+2,500), and Seattle Seahawks linebacker Jordyn Brooks (+2,500) are other notable players on the list.

Other players who could be worth a look are Antoine Winfield Jr. and Xavier McKinney who both sit at +3300. Picking an MVP or Super Bowl winner is tough enough. Picking the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year is almost impossible, especially if a longshot is being looked at.

It's hard to know what players to bet on, especially with the players +2000 or more because of playing time. Chase Young and Isaiah Simmons will no doubt get plenty of playing time, but after that, it's hard to predict how much of a role they will have, especially if they are on a good team.

Young hasn't been afraid to talk a big game about his skills as he starts his NFL career with the Redskins. Before the draft even started he claimed he was the best player in the 2020 class. He is going to have every chance to prove it with all the playing time he should receive as a rookie.
