The Washington Redskins have an intriguing group of running backs heading into 2019. According to Jordan Dajani of 247Sports, former Redskins star himself – Clinton Portis – seems to believe the trio is the best in the NFL.

The Redskins plan on entering the 2019 season with a three-headed monster at running back.

Adrian Peterson is the veteran who showed he still has plenty left in the tank. Derrius Guice is the young stud who many expect great things from. And Chris Thompson is the lethal receiving back.

While there are plenty of fantastic running back groups in the NFL – it's not that crazy for Portis to say this.

Peterson is an obvious Hall of Famer. He might not be as deadly as he once was, but he proved last year that he's still dangerous. Peterson's one of the smartest runners in football – always finding the hole. He tends to get you positive yards.

Guice is an unknown entity. That being said – he was superb in college, and it was a miracle he fell to the second round of the NFL Draft last year. He never got a chance to prove himself though, tearing his ACL in the first preseason game.

The Redskins clearly believe in him though – as he was the obvious starter before that injury. Nothing should've changed. Guice is very much like Peterson in that he's extremely powerful (never stops moving his legs), while very underrated when it comes to speed and shiftiness. Learning more about ball carrier vision from Peterson will only make him better.

Finally, there's Thompson. Thompson's never been an every down back. He honestly has the talent though. Due to his size and injury history, many don't see it. Sure, he might not be the power guy that gets you the extra yard in a pile. He's fast and has a great repertoire of moves to make defenders miss though. Thompson's also one of the best receiving backs in the NFL.

At first glance – this group might not seem that impressive. An “old” running back, an unproven back and a receiving back. They're all better than their descriptions though.

It's no wonder Portis believes in them so much. Sure he might be a little biased, but the Redskins running backs will be out to prove him right in 2019.
