Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie is back in the NFL after a very brief hiatus. The veteran cornerback officially ended his short-term retirement on Friday, agreeing to terms with the Washington Redskins.

The 11-year veteran began last season with the Oakland Raiders after signing a contract with the team in late August. He played sparingly over the first half of the season, though, only appearing in sub packages, prompting him to announce his retirement from the game of football on October 30th.

The NFL reinstated Rodgers-Cromartie from retirement last week. Explaining his decision to resume his playing career on Friday, the 32-year-old recalled a conversation he shared with his agent over the winter.

“Looking at the market, I was like man, listen, I was watching the games last year and was like, ‘teams still need corners,’ you know?”  Rodgers-Cromartie said, per the Redskins' website. “I know I still have a lot left, and I was like, ‘put it out there, man,’ I still want to play, I still have a lot to play, if someone gives me the opportunity, man, jump on it.’”

A two-time Pro Bowler and Second Team All-Pro in 2016, Rodgers-Cromartie has played for five teams in his NFL career. Perhaps his best season came with the New York Giants in 2016, when he finished with six interceptions and 21 passes defensed, the former of which matched his career-high.

With Washington, Rodgers-Cromartie will again share the defensive backfield with star safety Landon Collins, who was his teammate with the Giants from 2015 to 2017 and recently signed with the Redskins.
