Washington Senior Vice President of Player Personnel Doug Williams is one of the most memorable quarterbacks to ever suit up for the Redskins. He's also pretty impressed with the team's newest addition to the quarterback room.

Williams told Steve Wyche of NFL Network that Haskins, the first-round quarterback out of Ohio State, has a legitimate chance to earn the starting job.

He might end up starting, that could happen,” Williams said. “I don’t want to say he’s going to start Game One today, but it’s been enjoyable to see what Dwayne Haskins has done.”

Williams said Haskins’ performance over the last couple months opened some eyes in Washington.

“It’s been a great offseason,” Williams said. “To be on the sideline during OTAs and minicamp and see the young guy do what he’s done and take command of the opportunities he’s had. There’s room to have a lot of hope.”

In one season as a starter in college, Haskins completed 70 percent of his passes with a whopping 50 touchdowns and just eight interceptions. The system ran under Urban Meyer is a far cry from Washington's west coast offense, though.

During minicamp, Haskins looked bewildered, at times, by the Redskins scheme, according to reports. There was always going to be a steep learning curve, and that showed. To Williams' point, however, there were times Haskins athletic gifts showed why he was the 15th pick.

That's the reason for hope.
