When the Washington Redskins selected Dwayne Haskins with the 15th overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft late last month, the general consensus was that Haskins would win the starting quarterback job heading into next season.

However, the Redskins are clearly not just going to hand him the position, as the first reps at organized team activities went to Case Keenum, and given the fact that Keenum has ample experience as a starter, Haskins may have a battle on his hands.

But, the good news for Haskins is that he is apparently impressing Washington thus far.

According to JP Finlay of NBC Sports, Haskins looked great at the first day of organized team activities on Monday, with Finlay stating that he outshined Keenum and will probably eventually win the job.

Finlay also points out that Haskins has a lot more zip on his throws than Keenum.

As for head coach Jay Gruden's thoughts? He was diplomatic, as one would expect.

“It’s a long process and I think they both handled it well today,” said Gruden of the first day of OTAs. “Hopefully we’ll do better tomorrow and the next day and so on and so forth and I’m sure it will be a good, lengthy competition with some great players going at it.”

Not yet participating in the activities is Colt McCoy, who is still recovering from a broken leg injury that required surgery. So, as far as Haskins is concerned, that is one less veteran signal-caller he has to worry about.
