The career debut of Washington Redskins quarterback Dwayne Haskins certainly did not go as planned against the New York Giants. Regardless, it still provided him with an opportunity to live out his childhood dream.

A New Jersey native, Haskins grew up rooting for quarterback Eli Manning throughout his childhood. According to Brian Fonseca of NJ.com, he made sure to get acquainted with Manning after the game.

“I talked to Eli after the game and I just told him how much I appreciated watching him since I was eight years old,” Haskins said following the 24-3 loss. “I grew up here and lived an hour away from the stadium. (New) Jersey still runs deep in my blood and it allowed for me to be out there and some of my family was here.”

The connection between these two quarterbacks is certainly an intriguing one. Despite being a Manning fan, Haskins is now looking to make his bones with an NFC East rival in Washington. While the veteran is now at the tail end of his career after being replaced by quarterback Daniel Jones, the others is just beginning.

The era of Haskins under center started somewhat abruptly after head coach Jay Gruden decided to make the switch during the game. It is clear that the rookie was far from ready to make his debut following the three interceptions he threw. Regardless, the 15th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft will need to find his footing if he hopes to make a better impression on Manning in Week 16.
