Dwayne Haskins isn't the starting quarterback for the Washington Redskins, but that doesn't mean he can't impress in preseason play. On Thursday night, against DMV neighbor Baltimore Ravens, that's what he's doing while moonlighting as a starter.

Haskins found receiver Steven Sims for an impressive touchdown on 1st and goal. The former Ohio State Buckeye rolled out of the pocket in play-action then delivered a toss to Sims, who made an impressive diving catch to put the Redskins up.

Washington head coach Jay Gruden named Keenum the starter last weekend, but Haskins is the future of the position in the nation's capital. The team somehow saw the quarterback ā€” who was projected to go as earlier as the top-five ā€” slip all the way to pick No. 15, where Dan Snyder giddily decided to get his guy.

After Haskins was passed over 14 times, he sent a message to the NFL, saying:

ā€œTo be honest, Iā€™m more motivated than ever before. Iā€™ve got a chip on my shoulderā€¦ the league done messed up.ā€

Dwayne Haskins is proving the league might have actually messed up in letting him slip to No. 15. A Heisman Trophy finalist, Haskins brings Washington a blend of cerebral play, accuracy, and, now, motivation to prove his doubters wrong.

As for Sims, he's a fringe roster member in a rebuilt Washington wide receiver depth chart. Out of the University of Kansas, the 5-foot-10, 22-year-old went undrafted. Playing Big 12 football, the undersized receiver amassed 2,582 yards and 19 touchdowns on 214 receptions in four years.
