Washington Redskins coach Jay Gruden made it clear earlier this week that Case Keenum was still the starter, but his tone seems to be changing on rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins.

During a conference call with the New York Giants media, Gruden said that Haskins is not that far away from being ready and that he is going to his chance.

After Keenum turned the ball over five times against the Chicago Bears, Gruden pointed to the positives that Keenum had shown and said he had done enough to lead the team into battle against the Giants.

“He's done some good things, too. It hasn't all been bad,” Gruden said on Keenum via NBC Sports. “I know last night, the five turnovers weren't good. Those are never good. He's done some good things. He's No. 2 in pass completions, No. 4 in passing yards, tied for fourth in touchdowns, he's ninth in passer rating. So he's done some good things.”

“This is his first time in the offense, and he's played against three really good defenses,” the head coach continued. “That's no excuse, but he's done some good things to deserve the chance to get us out of this thing this week against the Giants.”

Gruden also hasn't given up making the playoffs which is why he has kept Keenum under center but after an 0-3 start, maybe Gruden needs to relook at the goals for this year. The hope is Haskins is the future of this team, so if he is ready to start in the NFL it makes sense for the team to make the change.
