The Washington Redskins are set to bring in veteran running back Jamaal Charles for a visit Sunday, Josina Anderson of ESPN reports.

Charles will join fellow free-agent RB Orleans Darkwa, who has a workout scheduled with the Redskins on Sunday, per Anderson.

The Redskins have been absolutely ravaged by injuries to their running backs of late. Rookie Derrius Guice has already been ruled out for the season after suffering a torn ACL. Meanwhile, Byron Marshall could miss up to a month due to an ankle injury, while Samaje Perine is also set to be sidelined for at least a week with his own ankle tweak.

Kapri Bibbs, Rob Kelley, and Chris Thompson are the Redskins' remaining healthy running backs currently on the roster.

As for Charles, he is still searching for a new team following his release from the Denver Broncos. The 31-year-old is clearly no longer the All-Pro-caliber back that he was during his prime with the Kansas City Chiefs. He coming off a disappointing lone season with the Broncos last year as he had a mere 425 yards from scrimmage and one total touchdown in 92 touches.

As a result, Charles hasn't garnered much interest in the free agent market this offseason. He worked out for the New Orleans Saints a couple months ago, but they decided to sign Shane Vereen instead.

While Charles might have the chance to play some part in preseason given the Redskins’ current rash of injuries in the backfield, it seems unlikely that he’ll be able to make the roster. Nevertheless, it will be a good opportunity for him to showcase himself and potentially impress some other team in need of a veteran back.
