The Washington Football Team recently made a historic move by hiring the NFL's first Black president in Jason Wright. He also became the league's youngest team president at the age of 38. However, the former running back wasn't exempted from being bombarded by the team's fans on social media.

Almost immediately following the announcement, Wright heard all about the Redwolves movement:

“Within 30 seconds of being announced someone blew up my Twitter with Redwolves propaganda,” Jason Wright said on Monday via the Washington Football Team Talk podcast.

The Northwestern product received the clamor positively and is excited for the passion being shown by the team's fanbase:

“This is a very aggressive campaign around Redwolves, which is wonderful. The passion is fantastic,” Wright said. “You have fans that are so engaged on this and we are absolutely going to harness this.”

The team's fans have already let it known that the ‘Redwolves' is the most favored moniker for the team to take on. For nearly 90 years, Washington played as the Redskins but a series of controversies and threats from corporate sponsors forced team owner Dan Snyder to seek a new identity.

The Redskins moniker was immediately retired and the franchise sought to be referred to as the ‘Washington Football Team' for the time being. However, the somehow-generic identity won't last long either. Snyder and new head coach Ron Rivera have already started their search for the team's new name for the 2021 season and beyond.

Wright's arrival will hopefully set a positive trend for the Washington Football Team moving forward. Indeed, there is nowhere to go but up for the once-soured franchise.
