The Washington Redskins are off to a rough 0-3 start, and according to the Washington Post's Les Carpenter, head coach Jay Gruden could be fired if the team loses to the New York Giants this Sunday.

“Two people with knowledge of the situation say Gruden could be fired if Washington doesn’t beat the New York Giants on Sunday.”

There weren't many people who expected the Redskins to be a legitimate contender before the season began. At the same time though, Washington has been way worse than they were presumed to be.

In the first three weeks of the season, the Redskins have been outscored by their opponents 94-63. Their latest loss against the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football seemed to have struck a nerve in the front office.

Since the beginning of the season, Gruden has been committed to Case Keenum as his quarterback. Keenum can be efficient at times but he also tends to make plenty of mental mistakes, turning the ball over five times in Week 3.

As a result of Keenum's struggles, many are calling for Gruden to insert rookie Dwayne Haskins into the starting lineup. Despite his job being on the line, the Redskins head coach has refused to start the Ohio State product.

Along with the quarterback woes, the Redskins have been a circus all offseason with the Trent Williams situation. The All-Pro left tackle has been away from the team due to the medical staff mishandling a surgery he received.

On top of all the drama in Washington, Gruden's 35-51-1 career record doesn't help make his case to remain with the franchise. Gruden knows his job is one the line this Sunday against a revitalized Giants team with Daniel Jones at quarterback. If only Gruden had a rookie signal-caller of his own that could possibly provide a spark to his team.
