Despite the disappointing 2017 NFL season, the Washington Redskins reiterated their faith in head coach Jay Gruden by insisting they had no intention of parting ways. However, that was just one of the many questions the Redskins are able to answer going into the offseason.

Among the most notable concerns is the uncertain future of quarterback Kirk Cousins. Although Gruden has expressed his faith in Cousins as Washington's franchise quarterback, he acknowledged that there is still plenty of work to do, according to JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington:

“When you’re 7-9, you know it’s hard to say, ‘Wow, this guy really was outstanding,’” Gruden said. “Kirk had his flashes where he was really good. From a consistent standpoint, over the course of 16 games, you know, we’re 7-9. He did some great things, threw for over 4,000 yards and 29 touchdowns. So I think he’s a very, very good quarterback without a doubt, but as far as getting us over the hump from 7-9 to winning a division with all the injuries that we had, I think he competed and did some good things.”

Gruden has never wavered from his stance on Cousins. However, it seems he is still a bit non-committal about whether or not Washington should pay top dollar for his services in free agency.

The former fourth-round pick has now thrown for over 4,000 yards for the third consecutive year. However, his play had been a bit shaky during the final stretch of the year. Regardless, Cousins is likely to attract plenty of suitors given the current quarterback struggles throughout the league this season.
